Our History
Phoenix Lock Company was established in 1873 as The Phoenix Lock Works, manufacturing locks and hardware. The original location was a building at the corner of Halsey Street and the Morris Canal, in Newark, New Jersey.
James C. Jones became associated with the company in 1905, followed by John Jones, his father, with Edwin Dent serving as Secretary. In 1906, the partnership built a new and larger plant pictured below at the corner of Third Avenue and Fourth Street, Newark. The business continued to expand in the manufacture of solid brass hardware. In 1937 and 1940, James C. Jones' two sons joined the company. In 1949, the business was incorporated as Phoenix Lock Company,Inc. with James C. Jones, President; J. Corbett Jones Jr., Vice President; and Norman Jones, Secretary-Treasurer. James C. Jones III and Donald Jones, the sons of Corbett, joined the company in 1956 and 1961. Today they hold the top management positions. Corbett and Norman have since retired.

In July 2004, Greg Selke and his associates undertook the opertions, moving the factory to West Chester, PA. It is with a profound sense of history that this new group picks up where they left off with the
