The Phoenix Lock Works was established in 1873, in a building at the corner of Halsey Street and the Morris Canal, Newark, manufacturing locks and hardware. James C. Jones became associated with the company in 1905, followed by John Jones, his father, with Edwin Dent serving as Secretary. In 1906 the partnership built the new and larger plant pictured above at the corner of Third Avenue and Fourth Street, Newark, where it is still located. The business continued to expand in the manufacture of solid brass hardware. In 1937 and 1940 the two sons of James C. Jones joined the company. In 1949 the business was incorporated as Phoenix Lock Company,Inc. with James C. Jones, President; J. Corbett Jones Jr., Vice President; and Norman Jones, Secretary-Treasurer. James C. Jones III and Donald Jones, the sons of Corbett, joined the company in 1956 and 1961. Today they hold the top management positions. Corbett and Norman have since retired. This website is based on our current catalog which was designed by Donald's son, Michael, representing five generations dedicated to manufacturing outstanding quality solid brass hardware.
All products are manufactured in house in Newark NJ, USA. All components such as pivot pins, screws, etc. are solid brass and all tension springs are phosphor bronze. Brass hardware is very durable as well as highly decorative. Our brass products are universally used in the building industry and the marine industry. All items are completely rust proof and will provide a long working life under a variety of environmental conditions.
